4 Reasons Why Your PTCL Internet Speed is Slow - DSL Broadband Pakistan

Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) is Pakistan's largest telephony service. Even after the arrival of other telecommunication companies such as Telenor, Zong, Warid, Ufone, Mobilink etc, PTCL still holds the status of backbone for Pakistan's telecommunication infrastructure. Broadband Pakistan is a DSL internet service by PTCL which is used by millions of subscribers. There are few other DSL internet service providers also in the country however many people still prefer PTCL services. However, PTCL internet services in many areas are not worth loving it as internet speed comes too low even you are on 4mb or 8mb connection. Here are the common reasons.

PTCL Package Commitment

Its not your fault actually, PTCL commit unlimited downloads with speed as mentioned in your package however as PTCL gives you a shared internet line (shared IP address) each time when you are connected to internet, so there may be large number of people using same IP causing a slow speed for others on the same IP. You can not get rid of this thing until you get a dedicated static IP address.

You May Have Shared Internet

Well, its a common reason for getting slow speed. Imagine 4mb internet connection is used on 4 different computers, each computer will get less than 1mb speed causing a super slow downloading, video streaming and browsing. For having good speed, individual must have a separate internet line and not a shared one.

PTCL Connection Type

People related to computer field know that Fiber optical cable is the best medium to get high speed internet. PTCL do have fiber optical wiring in developed areas however most of the PTCL exchanges are still using Copper wires providing PTCL telephone connection. Copper wires is not a medium designed to carry large number of data simultaneously so it cause slow speed while carrying data. You must ask your area's Lineman if you are on a Fiber optical connection or copper wire connection.

Unavailability of Desired Package from Exchange

Well, this is a new reason i came to know why internet speed comes so slow. Few days ago, i ordered an 8mb Broadband Pakistan package, i got the connection within 15 days however i felt speed is not as 8mb internet connection. I called the PTCL line help line and asked whats wrong with my Internet speed, they told me there is not something wrong from their side as in their records i am on 8mb connection and getting proper speed. I, then called the DSL manager of exchange, He told me that They have given me connection of 2mb because port in 8mb connection was not available however they will shift my connection to 8mb port as soon as possible. After 3,4 days, i was shifted to an 8mb connection. You must ask your exchange's DSL manager if you are on exact port to get the actual speed as described in your package.

  1. PTCL is the only provider giving shared speeds on all EVO, nitro, etc. and now they have gone to the extent of sharing the DSL bandwidth. I have been a PTCL DSL user for more than 2 years, but now they are giving shared connections without consent of the customer. I have downgraded my package to 2 mb and will soon sift to another provider. PTCL hide facts, keep their customers in shadow and even lie about things. I am a really disappointed customer of theirs.

  4. PTCL is getting on my nerves! Even it is a biggest provider of internet in Pakistan, it fails to provide quality so that customers can use it without complaining.

  6. Yeah totally agree with the guys above. PTCL is totally keeping its customers in the dark. Ive been using PTCL for more than two years [i was totally satisfied with the speed :)] but now i get very low download speed and it sucks. 4MBPS connection but i get shitty speed.

I guess the local linemen are also involved, in delebritely switching your wires to some shitty copper cable and the phatasses sitting at the exchange are also equally blamed.
