8 Ways to Stay Healthy and Active


Eat right: Eating the right kind and amount of food will help you live a longer and healthier life. Eat a variety of foods including vegetables, fruits, dry beans, whole grains, breads and cereals. Try to eat green leafy vegetables, citrus fruits, lentils, oats, barley, peanuts etc. Foods like fish, lean meat and low fat dairy products are also a good option. Many diseases like diabetes, heart disease, and high blood pressure can be prevented and controlled by eating right. Try to keep your weight under control by balancing your calorie intake with the calories you use through physical activity.

Maintain Physical Exercise

Physical exercise may include walking, jogging, biking, gardening, dancing, swimming, playing a sport, raking leaves, washing windows etc. Try doing 30 minutes of constant physical activity, such as brisk walking, at least five days of the week. Research shows that physical activity can help prevent heart disease, high blood pressure, obesity, diabetes.

Get regular health screenings

This includes physical and medical examinations to ensure that you are physically fit. Make sure that your immunizations are done and keep a regular check on health examinations that are advisable according to your age. Consult a doctor before you undergo any such examinations or tests.
