How to Prevent Baldness

It is said that baldness is hereditary, but sometimes this may not be the case.  Loss of one’s hair, at an early age, can cause distress, depression and low self-esteem. Hair loss seems to affect men more commonly than women. The symptoms for men are thinning on the crown and receding hairline. Certain diseases such as diabetes or auto-immune diseases can also cause hair loss.

1. Healthy hair means a healthy diet: It is essential that your hair gets all the nutrients that it needs in order to grow properly. You should eat plenty of protein, vitamins and minerals, so a diet rich in fruit and vegetables is important. The most important nutrients your hair needs are vitamin B2, Niacin, Biotin, Vitamin C, Folic acid, magnesium, silica, zinc, and beta-carotene (for Vitamin A).

2. Regular exercise is a must: Daily exercise is important on a regular basis. It is not only good for your overall health but also has beneficial effects on your hair. It improves blood circulation considerably.

3. Adequate fluid intake is essential: Keep yourself well hydrated by drinking plenty of water during the day. This is necessary for the healthy skin tissue.

4. Avoid the use of chemicals and extreme temperatures: Take care that your hair is not constantly exposed to chemicals and extreme temperatures. Excessive use of hair dyes, curling tongs and hairdryers may cause damage over a long period.

5. The use of reputable over the counter medications: There are many over-the-counter drugs available for premature baldness. They can help to stimulate natural hair growth.

6. Massage your hair well: Frequent massage of your hair with your hand nails of both hands in circular motion improves blood circulation and also makes your hair stronger by stopping hair loss.

7. Home remedies work too: Many items commonly found in the home can be used to prevent and treat baldness. Onion is one of them. The affected part should be rubbed with cut onions in the morning as well as in the evening for 10 minutes and then rubbed with honey. A paste made of red grams can also be applied regularly on bald patches for beneficial results. Liquorice grinded in milk with a pinch of saffron is another famous treatment for patchy baldness.

8. And when everything fails: If everything else fails and you cannot prevent yourself from hair loss, then the two options left are:

9. Hair Transplants: To perform a transplant, the surgeon must be able to extract hair follicles that are still active and can produce hair. Therefore anyone considering a hair transplant should not be completely bald.

10. Wigs and hair pieces: This is for balding men who are looking for ways to prevent hair loss now rather than deal with baldness later.
